Can I Apply for ESTA if My Passport Is Valid for Less Than 6 Months?

Yes. Depending on your nationality, you may be able to apply for ESTA and travel to the United States even if your passport has less than 6 months of validity remaining.

The United States generally requires passports to remain valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended departure date. However, passport holders from certain countries are exempt from this requirement and only need a passport that remains valid throughout their stay in the United States.

For example, if you hold a passport from an exempt country with 4 months of validity remaining and plan to visit the United States for 10 days, you may travel with ESTA as long as you meet the other entry requirements.

An ESTA authorization is generally valid for 2 years from the date of approval or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

If you obtain a new passport, your existing ESTA can no longer be used, and you must apply for a new ESTA using your new passport.

Before traveling to the United States, check the passport validity requirements for your nationality and make sure your passport remains valid through your planned departure date.
