KETA Required for Visa-free Country Travelers
You can apply for KETA anytime.
However, you MUST obtain KETA approval before boarding the flight or ship bound for the Republic of Korea.
KETA is an electronic travel authorization that visa-free foreign visitors need to obtain before entering the Republic of Korea by submitting relevant information online such as their travel information. The purpose of travel should be tourism, visiting a family member, participating in events or meetings, or commercial business (excluding the pursuit of profit).

From 23.07.03 (Monday), those under 17 and over 65 are excluded from the mandatory application of Electronic Travel Permit K-ETA exemption

▶ KOREA ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (KETA) is a system in which foreigners who want to enter Korea for the purpose of tourism, visiting relatives, and participating in various events and meetings (for the purpose of profit, are permitted to enter Korea online).
▶ All foreigners who wish to enter the Republic of Korea due to transfer must apply for a visa exemption agreement (67 countries) and 45 countries where visa-free entry is allowed (45 countries).
▶ KETA is valid for up to two years from the date of approval unless important personal information such as name, state of affairs, and passport number is changed within the passport expiration date, and if important personal information is changed, it must be reapplied.
▶ It cannot be modified after submitting the application, and if you fill out the wrong information, you have to reapply.
If the K-ETA application information and passport information are inconsistent, you cannot board the aircraft/ship.

▶ The following are the KETA exclusions
- diplomatic, official passport holder
- Korean visa holder, Korean registered foreigner
- Multiple citizens of the Republic of Korea (Holding a valid Korean passport)
- active-duty U.S. military personnel in Korea (entry for official purposes)
- Crew and crew (including prospective crew members)
- ABTC Holders (excluding the United States and Canada)
- UN Passport Holder (UNLP, LAISSEZ-PASSER)
- Transfer passengers (If you are on board for transfer purposes, you cannot enter without a pre-authorized K-ETA)
When entering South Korea, an Arrival Card is required and is usually distributed on the plane in paper format. There is no online pre-registration service available.
The Arrival Card requires you to fill out details such as your name, gender, date of birth, occupation, purpose of stay, and accommodation address.
However, if you have applied for and received approval for K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) in advance, you are exempt from filling out the Arrival Card.
For international flights to Korea, it is generally recommended to arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours in advance.

If the date of birth in your passport is recorded as 1999 XX month XX day, please select and enter 1999 00 month 00 day when applying for K-ETA.
The validity period of K-ETA is 2 years from the date of approval (3 years after July 3, 2023). However, when applying for K-ETA, if the passport has less than 2 years remaining (3 years after July 3, 2023), the K-ETA is valid until the expiration date of the passport.
No, most travelers from visa-waiver countries cannot enter South Korea without a K-ETA. The K-ETA is a mandatory electronic travel authorization required for foreign nationals from these countries who intend to visit South Korea for tourism, business meetings, short-term education, or family visits. Without an approved K-ETA, you will not be allowed to board your flight or ship to South Korea.
However, certain exceptions may apply, such as for diplomats, official duty personnel, and some specific visa holders. It is always best to check the latest requirements and exemptions on the official K-ETA website or with the nearest South Korean embassy or consulate before making travel
