Great location, standard room was totally workable with all the mod cons you’d expect. Nice decor, location can’t be beat. But the service is horrific. Had to talk the valet into actually valeting my car while carrying in all of my own luggage, not a bellhop to be found in the entire place. Room service was fine but late night menu is nominal and the guy practically threw the tray at me. Leaving the hotel at no point did a single person ask if I needed help or offered a hand with bags. Should be a cheaper stay for the level of service provided.

I stayed at The Charles Hotel recently, and I had a really positive experience. Honestly, this is one of the best hotels in Cambridge—fantastic overall.
The interior is beautiful, with amazing art and a real sense of luxury in the rooms. Housekeeping is incredible—every single day my room was cleaned thoroughly without fail. They really know what they’re doing.
The lobby is such a great space—luxurious, quiet, and just a nice place to sit and relax. The hotel has some great amenities too, like Henrietta’s Table, Bar Noir, Bar Enza, and the Regattabar. Everything felt high-end and convenient.
The beds were pure luxury—so comfortable that falling asleep was effortless every night.
The location is also great: right in Harvard Square but tucked away from all the chaos. I also used the gym daily, which was really modern and well-equipped. The only downside there is it could use a few more running machines, but otherwise, it was great.
That said, there are a couple of things that could improve. The minibar service wasn’t updated daily, and there weren’t any options to customize it. The staff could also be more helpful—I asked to book a business room for a meeting with my boss at Harvard Law School, but I was directed to a business outside the hotel instead. On another occasion, when I asked for a Diet Coke, I was told to go to CVS. These moments didn’t quite match the otherwise high-end experience.
Still, those were minor issues in the grand scheme of things. Overall, this is a fantastic place to stay, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a luxurious and comfortable experience in Cambridge.

The hotel is nice enough, good location; right next to Harvard, the T, and a cute downtown feel (Saturday morning is a ghost town though).
Breakfast was really good. The room is nice, bed and pillows very comfortable, but the bedding is so loud. I know that sounds weird, but you can hear the bedding with every single move, it sounds crunchy, so if you’re a light sleeper, have sensory issues, are sharing the room, you’re not sleeping.
House keeping could definitely improve significantly; I found an empty plastic wrapper in the shower Matt, and long hair in the tub (I have short hair). Didn’t leave a good feeling.

I loved my experience here! This hotel is grand and luxurious and located in Harvard Square's heart (close to cafes and all). We were in a last-minute rush to find a hotel in Boston during peak fall weekend, and this was one of the only ones available. Everything looked aesthetic and clean, and the room was very nice (worth all the $$$). The mirror in the bathroom had a TV, which was a fun little feature. Their Wi-Fi wasn't bad, and I appreciated the Nespresso machine in the room. The bed was very comfy, and the curtain was excellent in blocking out any sunlight in the morning (I cannot sleep unless it's completely dark). The room was a little chilly at 68F, but it became comfy overnight when it set the thermostat to over 70F (the heating system was very efficient).
My only advice is: please don't go for the $55 valet parking or the $50 self-park next door. Instead, pay online for the University Press garage, which is less than a minute's walk from the hotel—it was 6 bucks for overnight parking.
The time was very special to me and my partner, and we are glad we got to stay at the Charles to celebrate a milestone.

Lovely lobby. Rooms are so-so. The location is great for pedestrians. If you have a car then you will be pulling your hair out. Practically no storage in rooms, I can’t close the cupboard door if my suitcase is in there, and clothes can’t hang as they fold on top of the bag. Draws are for stationary at best. You can definitly find more value for money but the same, or similar standard close by.
